* Preschool At Home: Toddler Cleaning Set

"C" (age 3) always wants to help when I'm cleaning house so
 I just hand her a rag or a duster  to keep her out of the way but... she's on to me.
"C" knows it's not the same thing as the "real stuff" mommy is using.
Cue Family Fun Magazine to the rescue!

I totally forgot I had this little set up going for her big sister years ago until I saw
the toddler cleaning set article in this month's issue of Family Fun Magazine!

I got out our old child-sized caddy and added:

* a small Lint Roller
* a Spray Bottle with Water (on fine mist setting) and a couple of drops of essential lavender oil
*Some Rags (one cotton, one micro fiber)
* A small Dust Pan and child-sized Sweeper
* Sponge

And my new favorite (thank you Family Fun for the genius idea!!)

Our "Dust Bunny" made from one of daddy's old
partner-less gym socks and some sharpie marker embellishment!

Hey now, this isn't too shabby... maybe my hardwood will get clean after all!

Happy Cleaning!

What a great idea. My three year old (probably the five year old and the eight year old as well, to be honest) would love this set. He wants to help me when I am cleaning and I give him bits I'm not using like the duster. I need to put a set together for him. Thanks for sharing.

My girls would love this. I wonder if I can find enough stuff around the house to make two of them. I'm sure they'd each want their own.

Oh my gosh if only I found this sooner! What a great way to get the whole family involved and soooo fun! Will definitely be transforming some of our socks into "Dust Bunnies" ASAP!

You can also buy dollar store brooms and mops, cut the handle to about the child's height, and replace the endcap (or use a chair end). The dollar store ones are slightly smaller already, because it's cheaper, so they don't look or feel awkward after the handle has been shortened. Oh, and carpet sweepers! Like the kind they use at restaurants and hotels? I bought mine at big lots for $12 and just left out one of the pieces of the handle. Instant child-sized "vacuum" - just empty it regularly or it will start to spit stuff out instead of picking it up :). Also Mr. Clean makes a yellow and grey squeegee that is a good size for kidlet hands, so they can wash windows with vinegar water.

I took the plunge and made a version of this little cleaning caddy for my 35 month old. He ADORES it! Thanks so much for this idea! Now he leaves my cleaners alone and still feels helpful!!
